This was God’s promise to Abram when He called him out of the land of Ur — to go to a new place that God was preparing for him.
As Christians, we can too easily become fixated on the part of this verse that focuses on Abram (and subsequently us) — the part about being blessed.
We like the idea of God looking out for us.
We like the idea of God lovingly lavishing us with blessings.
And we often neglect the fact that God goes on in this verse, and again in verse three, to point out that the point of Him blessing Abram (and subsequently us), the purpose of this gracious blessing, is so that Abram (and yes, us as well) would be a blessing to others.
God wants to use us to bless others.
And that includes you.
So how’s that going?
Are you available to God in this way?
Are you actively looking for ways to be a blessing to others??
College life has a way of turning us inward — and making us think that life (at least for now) is all about us.
How are you fighting against this?
Are you ready to be a blessing to others?
Go. Do. Good.
